At Backbench, trust is our #1 value. Backbench values your privacy and is committed to ensuring that your privacy is protected. This Backbench Privacy Statement ("Privacy Statement") describes our privacy practices. Please read this Privacy Statement carefully to learn how we collect, use, share and otherwise process information relating to individuals ("Personal Data"), your rights, your choices regarding our processing of your Personal Data,  including your ability to access and update information about yourself (“User”, “Your” or “your “or “you”).

A reference to “Backbench,” “we,” “us,” “our,” or the “Company” is a reference to Backbench Internet Services Private Limited that is responsible for your information under this Privacy Policy. Please read and understand this Privacy Policy carefully whether you are a new Backbench User or an existing User.


This Privacy Statement applies to the following processing activities. Without it, we may not be able to provide you access to and use of the following services:

  1. The Backbench platform and services which help you to set up and build software and web based applications through the use of a layer of computing infrastructure owned and licensed to you by Backbench.
  2. The Backbench website which describes the Backbench platform and services, allows you to sign up for the Backbench platform and services, and gives you information on other activities that we organize or participate in, such as Visiting our offices, Events, Conferences, MOOC’s, Receiving communications from us, including emails, texts, fax, or Newsletters, etc.
  3. Participating in community and open source development.
  4. All other products and services provided by Backbench.

Our websites may contain links to other websites, applications and services maintained by third parties. The information practices of such other services are governed by the third-party privacy statements, which we encourage you to review to better understand those third parties’ privacy practices.

For the purpose of clarity, the services described in Section 1(a), (b), (c) and (d) above are hereinafter collectively referred to as (“Backbench Services” or “Services”). If you do not agree with this policy, do not access or use Backbench Services.



  1. Information that we need you to provide to enable you to sign up for Backbench Services.
    1. Account Information: When you sign up for an Backbench account (“User Account”), we require certain personal information such as your, e-mail address, GitHub Id and Google Id for the purpose of user registration, identification and account verification.
    2. Additional Information: If you express an interest in obtaining additional information about our services, request customer support, use our "Contact Us" or similar features, register to use our websites, sign up for an event or webinar, or download certain content, we generally require you to provide us with your contact information, such as your name, job title, company name, address, phone number, email address, or username and password;
    3. Event Information: if you attend an event, we may, upon your consent, scan your attendee badge which will provide us with your name, title and company name, address, country, phone number and email address;
    4. Community Initiatives: if you register for an online community that we host, we may ask you to provide a username, photo and/or biographical information, such as your occupation, social media profiles, company name, and areas of expertise;
    5. Office Visit: if you visit our offices, you may be required to register as a visitor and to provide your name, email address, phone number, company name and time and date of arrival.
    6. Payment Transaction Information: We may collect your first name, last name, phone number, billing address, when you register for Backbench Services. Your credit card and billing details are collected through a third-party gateway to which you will be required to provide requisite information separately in order to process your payments. The third party payment gateway will in turn share with us the last 4(four) digits of your card number.
  2. The Information that we collect directly from Your use of the Services. We automatically collect information, including personal information, about the services you use and how you use them may include the following:
    1. IP and Geo-location Data: When you use certain features of the Backbench Services, we may collect your IP address and infer other information from it like your location, your Internet Service Provider(ISP), the type of your connection, and, if the connection is registered to a business, the name of the organization.
    2. Service Usage Data: We collect information about your interactions with the Backbench Services such as the pages viewed on the website and the account dashboard, number of clicks, domain names, landing pages and other such information, content viewed on the API console, interactions with the Backbench Platform and other such information.
    3. Device and Browser Information: We collect information about your devices that are used to interact with Backbench Services which includes the device's MAC address, Operating System (OS), system architecture, certain information that your web browser sends whenever you visit any website.
    4. Cookies and Tracking data: Backbench may use Cookies (and certain third party services) to help identify your previous interactions and sessions on the website. Backbench may associate this information with your Backbench Account. You may decline these cookies by changing your browser settings, if permitted. However, do note that this may impact certain features of the Services offered or your experience in using the Services.
  3. Personal Data we collect from other sources
    1. We may also collect information about you from other sources, including third parties from whom we have purchased Personal Data, and combine this information with Personal Data provided by you. This helps us to update, expand and analyze our records, identify new customers, and create more tailored advertising to provide services that may be of interest to you. In particular, we collect Personal Data from the following sources:

Business contact information, including mailing address, job title, email address, phone number, ‘intent data’ which is web user behaviour data, IP addresses, social handles, LinkedIn URL and custom profiles from third party data providers for the purposes of targeted advertising, delivering relevant email content, event promotion and profiling;
    3. Backbench may use platforms such as GitHub to manage code check-ins and pull requests. If you participate in an assignment, an open source or community development project, we may associate your code repository username with your community account so we could inform you of program changes that are important to your participation or additional security requirements.

This policy does not apply to, nor does Backbench take any responsibility for any information that is collected by any third party either using the Services or through any third-party links made available to you during your use of the Services or through any of the advertisements or through BOTS. Please note that you will be bound by the terms and privacy policy(ies) published by third-parties in respect of any information that you may provide to them.



Backbench will use the information collected from you for the following purposes:

  1. Ensuring the services with respect to Backbench Services are presented in the most effective manner for your use;
  2. To provide you with information pertaining to products and services, marketing and promotional activities, transactional and user support and products or services that you request from us which we feel may interest you, when you have consented to be contacted for such purposes;
  3. To carry our obligations arising from any contracts entered into between you and us, including for billing and collection;
  4. To notify you about any changes and improvements to Backbench Services; or analytical purposes, including but not limited to assessing usage data, usage patterns, and other similar activities;
  5. When you create a User Account, we keep a record of your communication to help solve any issues you might be facing.
  6. In any other way that Backbench may describe to you at the time you provide the information.
  7. We use information collected from cookies and other tracking technologies to improve your user experience.
  8. We collect device specific information (such as your hardware model, operating system version, unique device identifiers. Backbench may associate your device identifiers with your User Account.

Except as otherwise provided herein, Backbench will not disclose, publish, sell, rent, market or share with any third party your personal information without your express consent.

Please do not include or provide any personal information unless specifically requested as part of the registration or other applicable processes. If any information you have provided or uploaded violates the terms of this Privacy Policy, Backbench may be required to delete such information upon informing you of the same and revoke your access if required without incurring any liability to you.

You also may provide information to be published or displayed or posted on the Backbench website or transmitted to other users of the Backbench website or third parties. Any such information is posted or transmitted to others at your own risk. Please be aware that Backbench cannot control the actions of other users of the websites and mobile applications with whom you may choose to share information with.



We share information about you with your consent for the following for operating and maintaining the Services:

  1. To Conduct Analytics: We are always looking for ways to make our Services smarter, faster, secure, integrated, and useful to you. We use collective learnings about how people use our Services and feedback provided directly to us to troubleshoot and to identify trends, usage, activity patterns and areas for integration and improvement of the Services. We also test and analyze certain new features with some users before rolling the feature out to all users. We may also share aggregated information (information about our users that we combine together so that it no longer identifies or references an individual user) and other pseudonymised information for regulatory compliance, industry and market analysis, demographic profiling, marketing and advertising, and other business purposes.
  2. For Customer Support: We use your information for our live chat functionality which is used to resolve technical issues you encounter, to respond to your requests for assistance, to analyze crash information, and to repair and improve the Services.
  3. To Market, Promote and Drive Engagement with Backbench Services: We use your contact information and information about how you use Backbench Services to send promotional messages, marketing, advertising and other information that may be of specific interest to you, through other companies' websites and applications. These communications are aimed at driving engagement and maximizing what you get out of the Services, including information about new features, survey requests, newsletters, and events we think may be of interest to you. We also communicate with you about new product offers, promotions and contests. You can opt-out of receiving marketing communications from us by following the unsubscribe instructions included in our marketing communications.
  4. For Legal Reasons: Backbench will also share information including personal information with individuals or entities to the extent it believes in good faith it is required to:
    1. ensure compliance with law/ regulations and/or pursuant to enforceable orders of government, law enforcement or regulatory authorities;

    2. address fraud, security or technical issues;

    3. protect against harm to the rights, property or safety of Backbench, its other users or the public as required or permitted by law.

  5. For Effective Provision of Services: We may share your personal information to Backbench employees, contractors and agents who need to know that information in order to provide Services to you and who are subject to strict contractual confidentiality obligations and may be disciplined or terminated if they fail to meet these obligations.



Backbench stores personal information on its databases and on servers in various countries around the world. We may store your personal information on a server located outside the country where you live.

The Information that you provide, subject to disclosure in accordance with this Privacy Policy and license agreement, shall be maintained in a safe and secure manner. Backbench databases and information are stored on secure servers with appropriate firewalls.

Backbench uses industry standard physical, technical and administrative security measures to safeguard all personal information, confidential and secure. We conduct periodic reviews of our security measures pertaining to our information collection, storage, to guard against unauthorized access to systems.

When you enter User information (such as log in credentials) in respect of your User Account (“User Information”) all communications between Backbench and the Users of Backbench Services are encrypted using Secure Socket Layer (SSL) Certificates. While all reasonable efforts will be made to ensure that your User Information and all other information submitted by you is safe and secure, Backbench makes no representation, warranties or other assurances that the security measures are adequate, safe, fool proof or impenetrable.

Given the nature of internet transactions, Backbench does not take any responsibility for the transmission of information including User Information shared by you. Any transmission of User Information on the internet is done at your risk and shall not be responsible for the circumvention of the privacy settings or security measures either by you or any third party.

As a User of the Services, you have the responsibility to ensure data security. You should use the Services responsibly and not share your User Information including your username or password or account information with any person. Do remember that you are solely responsible for all acts done under the account registered to you.



a. Data Retention and Data Deletion

Request for Deletion

Backbench shall retain Information that it collects for as long as is necessary for the performance of the contract between you and us and to comply with our legal obligations. If you no longer want to use our Services and want your User Account/ personal information to be deleted, you may contact Backbench at to request that your User Account be deleted. Your User Account and all your personal information will be deleted within a period of 90(ninty) days from the date on which you request deletion thereof. If you wish to avail Backbench’s Services once your User Account is deleted pursuant to you request, you will have to sign-up as a new User.

Deletion on Account of Non-Use

In the event you do not use/ access the Backbench Services or your User Account in particular for a period of 1(one) year. Backbench will delete your User Account and all your personal information. If you wish to avail Backbench’s Services once your User Account is deleted pursuant to non-use, you will have to sign-up as a new User.

b. Rectification of Inaccurate or Incomplete Information

You can change, alter, modify, or delete your account information (including User Information) at any time by e-mailing us at However, please note that in the event you alter, or update or delete your account information, we cannot ensure the continuity or quality of the Services being provided to you.

Backbench may permit or deny modification of any information, to the extent such information is required by it order to be compliant with and observe applicable laws. You have the right to ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete personal information concerning you (which you cannot update yourself within your Backbench Account).

c. Data Portability

Data portability is the ability to obtain some of your information in a format you can move from one service provider to another. Depending on the context, you may also be entitled to request copies of personal information that you have provided to us in a structured, commonly used, and machine-readable format and/or request us to transmit this information to another service provider (where technically feasible).

d. Withdrawing Consent and Restriction of Collecting Data.

Where you have provided your consent to the collecting of your personal information by Backbench, you may withdraw your consent at any time by sending a communication to Backbench at specifying which consent you are withdrawing. Please note that the withdrawal of your consent does not affect the lawfulness of any processing activities based on such consent before its withdrawal. However, please note that in the event you withdraw your consent, we cannot ensure the continuity or quality of the Services being provided to you.

e. Complaints

If you wish to place a complaint with regard to privacy requirements or laws, access any of your Information or would like to update or correct any errors in your User Information, please contact our Data Protection Officer/Grievance Redressal Officer, Shwetabh Ranjan at so that we can consider and respond to your request. All requests will be addressed no later than 72 hours from the date such a request is made.

The Services are only intended for Users who are of 18 years of age or older. If you are not of the requisite age you are not to provide any User Information or other information. Backbench shall have the right to revoke the provision of Services and delete accounts of Users below the age of 18 without notice.



Our Services may contain links to and from the websites and mobile applications of third parties and advertisers. If you follow a link to any of these websites, please note that they may have their own privacy policies and that Backbench does not accept any responsibility or liability for these policies. Please check these policies before you submit any personal information to such websites.



This Privacy Policy is subject to change from time to time. If we make changes to this Privacy Policy, we will post the revised Privacy Policy on the Backbench website and update the “Last Updated” date at the top of this Privacy Policy. If you disagree with the revised Privacy Policy, you may cancel your User Account.



This Privacy Policy shall form a part and shall be read in conjunction with the license agreement that you may enter into with Backbench in respect of Backbench Services.
